I tend to be a one-track minded fellow. I don’t balance well naturally and I certainly don’t multi-task at all.
When there is something amiss or some burden on my heart, I often have a hard time seeing around it. That’s why peace in my heart can be pretty elusive at times. I get bogged down pretty quickly when things get crazy around me.
But I am continuing to learn the powerful discipline to stay.
Isaiah taught us a powerful truth about the peace-keeping faithfulness of God.
“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3
Do you see that word – “stayed?” It is a slightly awkward usage to our modern ears, but it’s very deliberate in purpose. It gives the idea of being fixed or fastened upon something or at rest in or on that something.
He teaches us that our key to this complete peace in our own hearts is to have our minds “stayed” on Him – God Himself. When we focus our attention upon Him, peace is real and present.
It seems so simple. It is, really. But it’s not easy.
It’s not easy to stay focused upon Him. But it’s worth it.
Perfect peace is what He promised when we stay our minds upon Him.
I challenge us all today to stop and stay our minds upon the God of Peace. Look past the problems and worries to the One who gives peace. Look to Him and let everything else fade out. Focus your mind upon Him and Who you know Him to be.
Would you say that your heart is at peace today? What do you do to stay your mind upon God?
