One of the things that I think can sometimes get in the way as we look to the Scriptures is the way that we have chopped the text up into chapters and verses. While these are, in one sense, very helpful tools for navigation, they often make it harder for us to keep in mind what kind of literature we’re reading. This is particularly true for the New Testament letters.
I took several weeks to walk through the book of 2nd Peter. I think Peter’s clear desire in this letter (as he was moved by the Spirit to write it) was that we, the readers, would be Stirred in our faith and not be Shaken by the circumstances surrounding us. This introduction to the series is an effort to get us to stop and really try to hear the letter the way its first recipients might have.
